As 2012 comes to a close, it is time to look ahead at 2013. Here are 7 Online Marketing Trends for 2013.

1- Agile Marketing

Online marketing is constantly shifting and changing, so your marketing team must be agile enough to adapt with each update and trend. The team at OPM is described as “an agile group of enthusiastic nerds who create transparent and effective strategies.” We understand that marketing MUST be agile enough to enable the integration of ongoing, rapid and evolving marketing efforts that work together to deliver the best possible results.

2- Zero Moment of Truth (ZMOT)

In November 2011, Google published a study and point-of-view called “Winning the Zero Moment of Truth (ZMOT)”. Google’s ZMOT document introduces marketers to a new mental paradigm that shoppers have adopted thanks to the evolution of web accessible devices, social media, and user-generated content. This is a moment in which the social and collaborative nature of the web becomes the determining factor in a shopper’s decision making. In order to win at ZMOT, companies need to make sure their marketing is relevant, personal, local, valuable, meaningful and aesthetically pleasing.

3- Content in the Right Context

Content is still very important, but so is the context in which it is presented. Content is best when it is tailored for a specific audience so that you can talk to their specific problems and how your product or service will benefit them.

4- Mobile, Mobile, Mobile

In 2013, 90% of mobile phones in the U.S. will be smartphones and this year mobile phones will overtake computers as the most common web accessible device worldwide. If you aren’t advertising on mobile devices, you are missing out! This is particularly true if you have a local business.

5- Importance of Visual Content

Visual content such as infographics, videos, illustrations, animations, etc. will become a key strategy in increasing customer engagement.

6- Responsive Design

With the increase in devices that content is consumed, websites designed in 2013 will largely incorporate ‘responsive web design’. This means that the website is designed for optimal viewing across all devices. There are cases where Reactive design (designing for specific devices) will be the better choice, so you need to consider what is right for your specific situation.

 7- Personalization

Digital experiences are becoming more and more personal and more and more specific. Take advantage of the ways that you can personalize your content and message to your customers.
